Chargers’ OT Rashawn Slater set to return to practice after surgery, not to play vs Jaguars

Rashawn Slater, the offensive tackle of the Los Angeles Chargers, endured a season-ending injury in September 2022 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The 23-year-old ruptured his left biceps during the game against the Jaguars and was knocked out for the rest of the season after surgery. However, the latest news on his injury is very encouraging, and the Chargers will play the same Jaguars in the wild card game tonight.

When will Rashawn Slater be back on the pitch?

As a result of his speedy recovery, the prow bowler has already returned to training but won’t be able to participate in the AFCA wild card game. His coach Brandon Staley said, “He’s progressing well and we are excited to get him back out there.”

Rashawn was placed on injured reserve by the Chargers, but he could be activated after Saturday’s game.

“He’s progressing well enough to get out there on the football field and he’s been working really, really hard, so I think just having him at practice is going to be great to see,” Staley further added.

Rashawn was drafted in the 2021 NFL draft and was picked by the Chargers as the 13th overall player in the first round. He signed a four-year rookie contract later that year.

In his rookie season, he was named to the Pro Bowl as a starter, and he was included in the PFWA All-Rookie Team in the same year (2021). He previously played for the Northwestern Wildcats in college.

He appeared in 19 games for the Chargers, 16 of which he started at left tackle. After his injury, another rookie, Jamaree Salyer, started in his place. With a 10-7 record, the Chargers clinched the wild card spot as the second-best team in the AFC West.
