Oliveira looked happy while watching the event as his fellow countryman Alexandre Pantoja edged past Brandon Moreno in what was a five-round war to become the UFC flyweight champion.

Charles Oliveira vs Islam Makhachev for UFC gold

Charles Oliveira picked up a big win over Beneil Dariush in his last fight. It is needless to say that this win makes him the number one contender and he will most likely challenge Islam Makhachev for the UFC lightweight title. This is a great opportunity for Do Bronx as Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje are scheduled to fight each other.

Besides, the likelihood of either fighter winning their matchup and challenging the Russian lightweight is very low. Because they will need time to prepare for the fight and despite Islam’s wish of not fighting the Brazilian, he does not have any other option. With that being said, Oliveira will look to avenge his loss and put on an improved showing this time around as Islam Makhachev won the first meeting very comfortably.

Charles Oliveira is not ready to fight in Abu Dhabi

The UFC was planning to book Islam Makhachev as the main event in October on the Abu Dhabi card. And after seeing Charles Oliveira’s performance against Dariush, Dana White revealed that the Brazilian lightweight could be next in line for the shot. However, the rematch is in big jeopardy as Do Bronx dropped a bombshell update in the recently concluded UFC 291 press conference.

While speaking on his availability, Oliveira said that October is too early for him and revealed that he will be ready to fight before the end of the year. “I really want to fight for the belt, but if it’s going to be October, it’s going to be too soon. But I’m ready to fight in November, December.”

Unfortunately, the former UFC champion does not control the narrative as he is the challenger this time around. They want Makhachev to feature in the October card because of his drawing power in the middle east. It is needless to say the promotion is in a big dilemma as Alexander Volkanovski will undergo surgery and Do Bronx wants to fight in November or December.
