Charles Oliveira is now seeking an opportunity to compete for the lightweight gold for the second time following tonight’s comfortable victory over Beneil Dariush.
In the post-fight press conference, Dana White also expressed that an Oliveira vs. Islam Makhachev rematch would make perfect sense. The UFC President explained why the 33-year-old fighter’s quest for the title is a reasonable demand following tonight’s victory.
“He looked like a world-beater tonight, and I’m excited for him and Islam to fight again. It’s the thing that makes sense. I’ll tell you on Tuesday.” Dana said.
Does Charles Oliveira deserve a title shot?
Oliveira’s wish to exact retribution on Islam Makhachev, the reigning lightweight champion didn’t come as a big surprise. In front of the Vancouver audience, Charles asked during the octagon interview, “Who is the champion?” This seems to be a hint that he wants to fight Makhachev for a rematch.

Prior to his title bout against Islam at UFC280, which the Dagestani fighter won with utter dominance, “Do Bronx” had a successful career in the UFC. Oliveira’s 11-fight winning streak came to an end at the hands of Makhachev.
In his UFC career, the Brazilian fighter has beaten many top lightweight fighters, including Tony Ferguson, Kevin Lee, Michael Chandler, Justin Gaethje, David Teymur, and Dustin Poirier. Due to his dominance in MMA and octagon prowess, he probably deserves another crack at the crown.

Charles Oliveira vs Beneil Dariush overview
A stunning knockout victory by ‘Do Bronx’ over Dariush in the co-main event of UFC 289 in Vancouver, British Columbia tonight stunned the MMA world. The Brazilian fighter certainly proved that he is back in business snapping the Iranian boxer’s eight-fight winning streak.
From the start of the fight, Oliveira (34-9 MMA, 22-9 UFC) and Dariush (22-5-1 MMA, 16-5-1 UFC) had some back and forth. But Charles landed some successful head kicks and went berserk on the wobbled Beneil.
Finally at 4:10 in the very first round, the referee stopped “Do Bronx” and declared Charles the winner as Dariush failed to display any visible sign of a comeback.
