Injuries are a big part of football. The game is a physical one, and players often get injured, which forces them to the sidelines, resulting in them missing a few matches. Many of Premier League club Chelsea’s players are currently on the bench due to injuries, which will lead to their missing the London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.
It poses a challenge for the Argentine manager, who must devise a strategy to cover the loss of these crucial players and assure a competitive performance in the next match.
Chelsea injury report
A total of eight Chelsea players are currently on the bench due to injuries. The Blues are without some of their key players, like Ben Chilwell, Wesely Fofana, and several others. Though captain Reece James has returned, he too is not in his best condition and may not be able to play the full game in the London derby.
According to Chelsea’s official website, the injured players are listed as follows:
“Armando Broja – continuing to receive treatment for irritation on the knee.
Trevoh Chalobah – continuing to undergo his rehabilitation program.
Ben Chilwell – continuing rehabilitation program out of the country this week.
Carney Chukwuemeka – continuing to undergo his rehabilitation program.
Wesley Fofana – continuing to undergo his rehabilitation program.
Romeo Lavia – continuing to undergo his rehabilitation program.
Mykhailo Mudryk – returning to full team training.
Christopher Nkunku – continuing to undergo his rehabilitation program.”
When asked about Reece James’ situation, who is heavily linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, Chelsea’s manager, Mauricio Pochettino, said, “I don’t know if he can play a full 90 minutes. We’ll see if he’s available.”
Left back Ben Chilwell is currently sidelined due to a hamstring injury. The defender has not been seen on the pitch since September 28, and he will not be making a return until December 2023.
Another defender Wesely Fofana is suffering from a Cruciate Ligament injury that has put the player on the bench until March 2024. New signing Christopher Nkunku will also be unable to step on the field due to the Frenchman’s knee injury. Others like Romeo Lavia, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Trevoh Chalobah will also remain unused in Chelsea’s clash against Spurs.
Chelsea vs Tottenham H2H stat
Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspurs have locked horns on several occasions; their last encounter took place on February 26, 2023, in a Premier League Round 25 match. Tottenham came out to be the better side in the game, triumphing over the Blues with a score of 2-0. Striker Harry Kane and midfielder Oliver Skipp made it to the scoresheet in the match.
Chelsea now have a chance to redeem themselves on November 7, when they will once again face Spurs in a Premier League away game.
In their last 35 encounters, Chelsea have won the London derby 18 times, while Spurs have only tasted victory in six games. Though the Lilywhites came out victorious in their last encounter against Chelsea, they might not be so lucky this time as their key striker, Harry Kane, has left them.
Both Chelsea and Tottenham have quite a few players on the sidelines, so it will be amusing to see how the two sides overcome their problems and deliver an amazing performance.
