The game of football is often treated like a business; some players and managers leave their old clubs to join someone else due to higher salaries, while other clubs bid farewell to their veteran players. Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino was also one such manager who left his old club to join someone else.
Though Tottenham fans have always hated the Argentine for leaving them and joining their rivals, he has just revealed the reason behind his saying goodbye to Spurs.
Mauricio Pochettino talks on being fired by Tottenham
Mauricio Pochettino joined Totenham Hotspurs from Southampton back in 2014. After staying with the club for five years, he decided to take his talents somewhere else and joined Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain. Thins were going well for the Argentine until he decided to return to the Premier League and join Tottenham Spurs rivals Cheslea. Fans started to criticize him and call him names for betraying his old club.
Mauricio Pochettino has now talked about the reason why he left Totenham in 2019. The 51-year-old told the press that it was not his decision to leave the club, but he was sacked instead. “We left Tottenham because we were sacked, not because it was our decision to leave,” he said. “I am going to accept what they will show. I didn’t decide to leave. We parted ways because I was sacked. It’s not a criticism of the club…but we didn’t decide to leave. Maybe we would still be there,” Pochettino added.
Chelsea vs Tottenham rivalry
Rivalries are a part of football, and there are many famous rivalries that have been going on since forever. La Liga giants Real Madrid have a rivalry with FC Barcelona. Premier League club Mancehster United also has a problem with their neighbor, Mancehster City. Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea also has an ongoing rivalry with Tottenham Hotspurs. The feud started back in 1967, when the two clubs faced each other in an FA Cup final.
Chelsea faced a 2-1 defeat in the match. It was already hard for the fans to accept defeat, and Tottenham’s fixture featuring ex-Chelsea duo Jimmy Greaves and Terry Venables gave birth to a rivalry. The bitterness has since continued, and the Blues will once again face Spurs on November 7 in a Premier League Round 11 match.
Tottenham came out to be the better side in their last clash on February 26, and it will be interesting to see how things end up this time.
