The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce meet the NBA superstars Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson in the eighth edition of Capital One’s ‘The Match’ charity golf event in the last month. The NFL duo graciously defeated the NBA duo in their last meet.
Whatever, Curry seems fully ready to prove himself a two-sport star following the defeat as he turned head in the American Century Championship golf tournament. The Chiefs starting QB is among many other fans who got exclaimed by the basketball star’s incredible golf prowess.
Patrick Mahomes is in awe of Steph Curry’s ace
The four-time NBA champion Stephen moonlighted as a hero on the first day of the Championship tournament on the shores of Lake Tahoe by earning a four-point lead on his way into the weekend after sinking a hole-in-one on a par-3, 152-yard hole.
The 6-foot-2 shifty guard played alongside father Dell as well as brother Seth and earned 27 points in the opening round. He is shining in the top spot with Joe Pavelski in second, Alex Killorn in third, and host Bret Baier in fourth spot. The veteran athlete couldn’t help sharing his excitement following the victory saying, “Probably one of the better rounds I’ve played ever, considering it was in the tournament.”
The Chiefs’ two-time MVP Mahomes tied for 57th in the 92-person field. Nevertheless, he didn’t halt back from heaping praise on the 35-year-old basketball star by retweeting Stephen’s NBC Sports clips with the caption, “I wish i was as cool as @StephenCurry30”, tagging him.

The 34th edition of the event featured many NFL stars along with Pat and Kelce including many current as well as former players like- Davante Adams, Marcus Allen, Ronde Barber, Tim Brown, David Carr, Derek Carr, and Baker Mayfield.
Alongside Curry and Thompson, other notable NBA stars include Ray Allen, Charles Barkley, Vince Carter, Dell Curry, and Vinny Del Negro. Some notable MLB players in this year’s tournament include Kevin Millar, Joe Mauer, Jon Lester, Derek Lowe, and Dexter Fowler.
The event features a $600K purse and the winner is set to earn $125K fixed while the runner-up will get $60K. Besides the prize money, it also raises money for local and national charities. The show will be streamed on NBCSports.com, the NBC Sports app, and Peacock.
