Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce recently made a candid comment about former teammate Orlando Brown Jr. following his departure to the rivals Cincinnati Bengals.
The former Chiefs’ left tackle had to bid adieu to the team as they already included former Jaguars OT Jawaan Taylor to their roster to take the left tackle spot, and hence, he signed a whopping four-year, $64 million deal with the Bengals in this legal tampering period.
The trade decision came just a week after the Chiefs snatched a 23-20 victory over the Bengals on the way to winning their second Super Bowl in four years.
What did Travis Kelce say about Orlando Brown joining the Bengals?
The Chiefs TE Travis Kelce, knowing the rivalry between the Cincy and Chiefs cited disappointment over their veteran TE Orlando Brown Jr joining the opposite squad to his older brother and Eagles center, Jason Kelce, on an episode of “New Heights” podcast last week as it could feel like a knife to the back.
“It hurts. It hurts my soul, man. It’s like watching your best friend just turn evil on you”, the TE said.
As Jason brought up the signing topic of Brown, Travis was repeatedly saying “it stings” as the rivalry is not limited to himself only, it stretches to the Chiefs’ locker room too and for him, it’s difficult to witness Brown playing for the team the Chiefs faced in the last two AFC championship games.
“It’s tough man. Obviously, I mean, the past two years we’ve struggled beating the Bengals. There’s been a lot of like build up in emotion of like, I would say, not necessarily hate but just like dislike towards the Bengals because they keep beating us, and they keep talking about it every time they do. So it’s like, to see him go to the dark side, man, it’s an awkward feeling”, he stated.
The 33-years old TE didn’t forget to wish his former teammate good wishes for having a Hall of Famer career and ensured to cherish their countless illustrious memories.
“Obviously, [I] hope that he has an absolute Hall of Fame career,” he added. “[I] wish nothing but the best for O.B. He was an unbelievable leader [and] an unbelievable teammate on (and off) the field. [We’ve] got countless memories that I’ll f—ing cherish”, he further added.
The combo of Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Orlando Brown will no longer be seen on the field and undoubtedly Brown’s departure has sapped the team’s offensive energy. Kelce’s comments reflect the disappointment felt by many in the Chiefs team following Brown’s departure and especially joining the opposite team.
As the Chiefs prepare for the upcoming season, they will need to rely on the strength of their team and the support of their fans to overcome this setback and continue their pursuit of a championship.
