The Kansas City Chiefs made a major move last night as they decided to pick a wide receiver known for his impeccable speed. The Chiefs managed to get No. 28 pick last night to select Texans wide receiver Xavier Worthy.
The Bills sent the 28th pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft to the Chiefs with which they selected Worthy along with a fourth-round choice (No. 133) in return for the 32nd pick in the first round and a third-round pick (No. 95).
The Chiefs have made multiple smart moves this offseason, which included signing veteran wideout Marquise “Hollywood” Brown. The team wants to make things easier for Travis Kelce and Rashee Rice by signing more wide receivers.
The addition of Xavier Worthy was particularly important for the Chiefs considering the team has two top wide receivers right now and out of the two Rashee Rice’s availability for the whole season is uncertain because of recent legal issues.
Chiefs made a smart move by selecting Xavier Worthy
The Chiefs, despite winning the Super Bowl, had a makeshift wide receiver group last year. Even before Rashee Rice’s legal troubles arose, they were in the market for help in the position due to underperformance.
Now, Rashee Rice’s future is also uncertain after he was involved in a street race that resulted in six-car crash.
While Rice’s availability is still a question because of ongoing investigation, the team’s issues at wide receiver position are expected to be resolved with the addition of Xavier Worthy.
The WR showcased exceptional speed at the NFL combine, breaking the record with a 4.21-second 40-yard dash. This raw speed of Xavier Worthy is reminiscent of the kind the Chiefs had when Tyreek Hill was on the team.
Since trading Tyreek Hill two years ago, the Chiefs have faced challenges in connecting on deep passes. Now Xavier Worthy’s arrival, along with other receivers like Brown, is seen as a solution to this problem.
