Cleveland Browns Star Myles Garrett Seeks Trade for Super Bowl Chance

The Cleveland Browns had a tough 2024 season with a 3-14 record. This left their defensive end, Myles Garrett, very disappointed. While he had a strong personal performance, the team’s poor results made it hard to shine. Because of this, Myles Garrett has officially asked to be traded so he can have a chance to compete in a Super Bowl.

Myles Garrett has been a key player for the Browns since they drafted him as the No. 1 pick in 2017. On Monday, he shared his frustration about the team’s struggles. “As a kid dreaming of the NFL, all I focused on was the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl – and that goal fuels me today more than ever,” Garrett wrote.

He also expressed his love for the Browns’ fans and the Northeast Ohio community, saying it was a tough decision to leave. He added, “These past eight years have shaped me into the man I am today. While I’ve loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won’t allow me to be complacent.”

Then Garrett made it clear that his goal was never just to be remembered in Cleveland but to win a Super Bowl. The 29-year-old said, “With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns.”

Browns face $32.95M cap hit If Myles Garrett is traded early

When a team trades a player like Myles Garrett, they still have to pay some of his contract. This is called a “cap charge” or “dead money.” It means the team has to count part of his salary and bonuses against their budget, even though he’s no longer on the team.

If the Browns trade Garrett before March 5, 2025, they will have to take a big $32.95 million cap hit right away. This is because he has a lot of guaranteed money in his contract.

However, if they wait until after June 1, they can spread the cost over two years (2025 and 2026). This would make the cap hit smaller for now, but it would still affect their budget later.
