Last week, “WWE Raw” announcer Samantha Irvin announced she was leaving the company to focus on her music career. Her news sparked reactions from fans and fellow wrestlers, including Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.
In an interview with The Schmo, Cody Rhodes referred to Samantha Irvin as “wonderful” and expressed his admiration for her work. Rhodes noted that while it often takes time for performers to get their due recognition, Irvin was already receiving her flowers.
The 39-year-old said, “What a wonderful…I feel like time will tell. In our business, five or ten years after somebody is gone, you hear ‘how wonderful. How amazing.’ She is top five, maybe top three. Samantha was just killing it. I know with her and WWE, they left on good terms. That’s amazing because the door is open in case she ever wants to come back. ”
Rhodes also stated that Irvin and WWE maintain a positive relationship, allowing her to return if she so desires. However, he expressed confidence that Irvin will find success no matter what she pursues. He expressed, “I’ve never watched WrestleMania 40 back, but I can hear it still, in terms of her very emotional announcement of winning the WWE Championship. That’s gonna be forever linked to me, so hats off to Samatha. That’s one of my homies.”
With former long-time Raw announcer Lillian Garcia stepping in, Irvin has taken to social media to reveal why she left WWE, stating that she did not enjoy being an announcer and wanted to do more on screen.
Samantha Irvin admits ring announcing isn’t her passion
Her sudden departure sparked curiosity among fans about the possibility of her reuniting with her husband, former WWE star Ricochet, in AEW. However, wrestling fans were shocked to learn the real reason for her resignation.
Samantha Irvin said, “I don’t like announcing. I’m serious! Announcing was only supposed to be my way in. I wanted to manage, maybe even become general manager one day. But WWE saw no other future for me besides announcer. I love watching the action but I don’t love being an announcer.”
