Cody Rhodes is not backing down from his quest to topple Roman Reigns and claim the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. In an exclusive chat, Rhodes revealed his mindset after his heartbreaking loss to Reigns at WrestleMania 39. Rhodes said that he still has his sights set on the title that Reigns holds and that he won’t let anything stop him from finishing the story.
“The goal is the same for me as a sports entertainer, as a wrestler. I came here wanting one thing. It doesn’t mean other stories won’t happen that will also be finished. And it doesn’t mean there aren’t other milestones – and we’re talking about the good things like video game covers and things like that today. But the most important thing to me is still the championship that sits on Roman’s shoulders. And it’s the biggest match that WWE could do. But it would take many mountains to be moved for that rematch to even happen. So – the goal is the same for me.”

How Rhodes Plans to Overtake Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns
Reigns and Rhodes are currently on extremely different brands post the 2023 WWE Draft. Reigns and Solo Sikoa were picked by SmackDown as their first choice, while Rhodes was snatched by Raw as their first pick. On Saturday, May 27, Saudi Arabia will host WWE Night of Champions, which will choose a new World Heavyweight Champion for Raw. Paul “Triple H” Levesque introduced the new title belt on Raw the previous week. Rhodes stated that he intends to compete for the new championship but does not believe it to be inferior to Reigns’ belt.

“I think it’s a beautiful title. I think it’s something that nobody should look down on. I think it’s something that represents Raw and represents WWE as a whole. And I think whoever wins it will have a huge responsibility to carry it with pride and honor.”
Lesnar betrayed Rhodes on Raw after WrestleMania when he was supposed to be his partner against Reigns and Sikoa. Lesnar attacked Rhodes before the match even started, leaving him battered and bruised. Rhodes got some revenge on Lesnar this week on Raw when he ambushed him during his entrance. The two superstars had to be separated by security, but they will face each other at WWE Backlash 2023. Rhodes said he has some “old school” tactics for facing Lesnar, who is known for his brute strength and MMA background.
