Commissioner Adam Silver on Why Stephen Curry and Isn’t in the 3-Point Contest

Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu are amazing 3-point shooters in the men’s and women’s leagues. But this year, they weren’t in the 3-Point Contest.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver spoke during the 2025 NBA All-Star Weekend and explained why Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is not competing this time.

During the 2024 State Farm All-Star Saturday Night, both Curry and Ionescu started strong. Ionescu scored 26 points, hitting her first seven shots and making 8 out of 9 money balls. Though she slowed down at the end, her score was still one of the best.

Curry was just as impressive, hitting two perfect racks and finishing with 29 points after making four straight shots in his final round to win. Fans loved the event, and there were talks of a rematch with a cool twist.

The rematch stage was set for a rematch in San Francisco this year, but it won’t happen. NBA commissioner Adam Silver said the idea felt “forced,” according to Tim Bontemps of ESPN.

He posted, “Adam Silver said that after talking to Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu, the idea of them repeating their competition from last season felt ‘forced,’ which is what led to it not happening again this year.”

Stephen Curry leads the way as unofficial host at NBA All-Star weekend

Even though Stephen Curry didn’t play in the 3-Point Contest, he took on the role of unofficial host for the 2025 NBA All-Star Weekend in the Bay Area. He showed his leadership both on and off the court.

Curry started the weekend by visiting McClymonds High School in Oakland, where he helped restore the gym as part of his Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation. On Saturday, he returned to the Oakland Arena to join the All-Star practice.

The crowd cheered loudly, honoring his impact on the Warriors and the community. It has been a busy weekend for Curry, balancing his hosting duties with giving back. About the event, he said, “This is a cool celebration, a ceremony of being in this arena. But you can’t necessarily, for me, even allow the celebration of it to take your foot off the gas pedal.”
