Connor McGregor and Michael Chandler have been feuding in TUF. And now, these two are speculated to lock horns in the octagon. However, Connor doesn’t seem to have any plan for cutting down for the fight. He seems like a gargantuan figure compared to what he started out in UFC with.
Connor was sidelined with a horrendous leg injury. He hasn’t stepped foot in the octagon since that humiliating defeat to Dustin Poirier on UFC 264, back in July 2021. However, he has been a regular at the gym. And since then he has jacked up, to the point he almost seems unrecognizable.
Connor has surely moved up in the weight class. This is why his rumored opponent Chandler feels that they may fight in a weight class they have never fought before. Chandler, however, is completely unfazed by that.
How did Michael Chandler fare in the UFC?
Chandler started out as a welterweight. He then moved down from 170 lbs to 155 lbs, and found glaring success in Bellator, clinching three championships. He decided to move to UFC to fight in the same weight class and had a scintillating debut against Dan Hooker picking up a win via first-round KO/TKO.
Chandler enjoyed immediate limelight as he was offered a title shot for the vacant lightweight championship, against Charles Oliveira. He saw the other side of the coin in that fight and the next fight against Justin Gaethje. Eventually, he turned things around, defeating Tony Ferguson with a vicious kick to the face.
His recent success has fuelled him for his rumored fight against “Notorious”. Chandler feels he is capable of fighting the Irish maverick in any weight class. Michael claimed that McGregor kept blabbering about 185 lbs and he is more than ready to take McGregor on at 185. Chandler even went on to say that he’s currently at 191 lbs.
Which weight class may McGregor fight with Chandler at?
However, UFC hasn’t disclosed the date or weight yet. But Chandler feels it will be after their TUF, and it might be in the fall this year. Chandler has been in direct contact with McGregor, as he is battling it out in the octagon against Team McGregor in season 31 of the show.
Neither McGregor nor Chandler has fought at middleweight. Given how McGregor has bulked up the fight might just take place at that weight division. And Chandler won’t back away from the invitation as takes a lot of pride in his capabilities as well.
