Conor McGregor has already become of the premier superstars in and outside the MMA world. Up ahead of debuting on Roadhouse with Jake Gyllenhaal, McGregor recently confirmed that he is indeed going to be facing Michael Chandler in the summer, a matchup that has been teased since late 2022.
Conor McGregor also expressed his confidence going into the matchup to be quiet high, and how despite his liking for Chandler, he would come back ‘to bust him up.’
Conor McGregor provides update on Michael Chandler bout
In a recent interview with ESPN. Conor McGregor has opened up about his potential bout with Chandler. According to McGregor, the Michael Chandler fight is confirmed for the summer (and possibly as early as June).
“Chandler in the summer, I got great news. It’s all systems go. Got the call, thumbs up,” McGregor told ESPN, stating that the official negotiations for the same have been done and that “The Notorious” would be returning back into the Octagon this year by September.
The fight is also expected to take place in the Lightweight Division, unlike Conor’s earlier suggestions.
“You know I was having a bit of a laugh with the 185 lbs… I haven’t weighed myself since the last UFC event…,” said McGregor, referring to the tweet he made that blew up in the MMA community, where McGregor invited Chandler to fight him at Middleweight, 2 weight classes above their own, clarifying that it was a joke.
Having put a stamp on the Chandler vs McGregor bout earlier, Dana White, the President of the UFC, never announced an official date for the matchup. For fans and the MMA community alike, McGregor and Chandler were supposed to face each other at the end of last season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter.’
The fight itself never came to fruition but the fight was teased to the fans over and over, with McGregor and Chandler faceoffs going viral on MMA Twitter. Although Conor McGregor has already confirmed the bout, Michael Chandler has stayed vague about the details of the same, expressing that ‘he is ready at all times.’
Conor McGregor vows to bust up Michael Chandler
Conor McGregor, having confirmed the bout with Michael Chandler, expressed him being slightly annoyed by Michael’s constant callouts.
“Its Chandler. I gotta go ‘Shut up Michael. You f***ing you imbecile,” said McGregor.
“I see him on RAW (WWE) and all… I like the guy… I’m gonna bust him open,” continued McGregor, referring to Michael Chandler calling out Conor McGregor on WWE RAW.
“You know if I say it gets done… it gets done…,” McGregor concluded.
Both Michael Chandler and Conor McGregor share mutual respect for each other’s careers and success but are equally competitive and confident in their ability to put each other down.
Will the bout finally take place in the summer of this year?
