Ian Garry picked up a superb knockout victory in his three-round bout against Daniel Rodriguez that took place on the main card of UFC Charlotte. Following his big win, the Irishman received high praise from fellow countrymen and superstar Conor McGregor.
The former UFC champion posted two tweets where he congratulated Garry and went on to appreciate the Irish welterweight for predicting exactly how he would finish the fight. To explain this tweet, Ian Garry predicted in one of the interviews that he will drop Rodriguez with a head kick and finish the fight. And he exactly won the fight with that finishing sequence.
Ian Garry. Another one! #CantStopDestiny ☘️

There aren’t many fighters who have manifested their knockout into reality. Conor McGregor is one such fighter who was seen practicing the finishing move before his fight which he used to knock out Jose Aldo to win the UFC featherweight title. Jorge Masvidal is another example who did the same against Ben Askren. And after UFC Charlotte we can add Ian Garry to this list of elite fighters who have achieved the same.
With this win, Ian Garry will most likely enter the top 15 rankings of the welterweight division. The Irish fighter impressed everyone including UFC President Dana White after his brutal knockout win. He has delivered on the expectations and shown that he is a top welterweight prospect.
Can Ian Garry emulate the same kind of success as Conor McGregor in the UFC?
Conor McGregor has established his name as one of the biggest superstars in the history of combat sports. The Notorious took the UFC by storm since his debut and has not taken a step back. He became the first fighter to hold two titles in different divisions simultaneously. Moreover, McGregor has a terrific record and has beaten many big names.
Similarly, Ian Garry is trying to take a blueprint out of Conor’s book and is attempting to rise to the top of the welterweight rankings. However, it is easier said than done as Garry has to do a lot before earning a shot at the title. The Irishman’s attitude looks good but in a stacked welterweight division, he will have to defeat four to five top fighters to solidify his name.
He has called out Neil Magny for a fight and that is a brave choice. A win over Magny would build his resume and help him get inside the top ten of the division. Do let us know in the comments section your thoughts on Ian Garry’s performance at UFC Charlotte.
