Funny! how Justin Gaethje holds the nickname ‘Highlight’ while his fellow lightweight Conor McGregor has difficulty going a day without appearing in the news. Amidst all his controversies, the Irish have made the news this time for a seemingly good reason although there is more to the whole picture than meets the eye.
Katie Taylor is currently the women’s flyweight champ and she is expected to defend her title against Amanda Cerrano in a rematch at Croke Park. Both these fighters put on a highlight-worthy fight back in April but their dreams of a rematch were nearly shattered as the rental cost went to the six figures!
At this point, the ‘Notorious’ Conor decided to step in and offered, “The extra security bill is 500k to have Katie Taylor fight at Croke Park? I will sponsor the event to see this happen.”

Taylor’s promoter Eddie had taken notice of the superstar and he wanted to talk about the matter, to which the notorious replied, “What’s the craic lad? Give me the current landscape. I’m in. Is this doable still? Or is it a double show, the point first with Croke Park later in the year, post-the GAA season? I’m in either way. She better be getting her worth for this also.”
Why is Conor McGregor trying to sponsor this fight?
There are a few angles to look at this matter. If we look from a sponsorship perspective, Conor’s ‘Proper 12’ brand has sponsored the likes of UFC before so they could try to get their name out there. Given the Artem Lobov lawsuit, this move seems kinda strange but McGregor is still expected to win in the courts.
It also needs to be considered that ‘Mystic Mac’ has been charged with assaulting a woman on his Yacht and he may be trying to clear his name. His recent comeback against Michael Chandler has also been announced which further fuels the suspicion.
