Arguably one of the most hyped UFC events of recent memory has been the ‘Notorious’ Conor McGregor’s comeback match after he took a hiatus following a severe leg injury during his match against Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier on UFC 264.
While the Irish did comeback for a season of TUF against former title challenger ‘Iron’ Micharel Chandler, there has not been any visible updates about his actual bout, leaving many fans frustrated. However, a newly leaked date may finally bring some clarity into the matter.
Conor McGregor drops possible new fight date vs. Michael Chandler
Conor McGregor has been generating excitement in the MMA community by hinting at his comeback date on social media. He posted a UFC Fight Pass screenshot, which shows him headlining UFC 296 on December 16 against Michael Chandler.
A bout between McGregor and Chandler was anticipated after they coached on ‘TUF 31’. However, the fight’s official scheduling was delayed due to the USADA regulations that all current fighters are required to comply with. Michael and Conor are both coming off losses to the same fighter, Dustin Poirier in their last bouts.
This clash is expected to be very exciting as both share a rather explosive fighting style. Chandler can get a bit reckless when striking while McGregor is more of a precise counterattacker.
Since signing with the UFC, Chandler has made pretty much all his fights exciting despite the results. While the former Bellator champ has the wrestling credentials to ride out many fighters in the division, he has tried to stay true to his words, “I’m here for a good time, not a long time.”

In the aftermath of UFC 292, Dana White said that the fight between the ‘TUF 31’ coaches is likely to happen in early 2024. White’s words hold more credibility when it comes to fight promotion and it is safe to hope that McGregor isn’t bluffing.
UFC supporters excited with Conor McGregor’s possible UFC comeback announcement
McGregor’s recent social media post has suggested renewed optimism for a 2023 comeback. Many fans are eagerly waiting for the pay-per-view king’s return. The fan reaction on X (former Twitter) is proof enough for the Irishman’s popularity. There are not many other fighters that capture the imagination of the fans like McGregor.
His return to the octagon is projected to break at least 1 million pay-per-views. Even back-to-back losses don’t seem to have left that much of a dent on his legacy.
