With Copa America 2024 just a few months away, teams and players from both South and North America gear up to go head-to-head in the ‘Copa Interamericana’, which is taking place after a 26-year hiatus. World Champions and defending Copa America champions Argentina will defend their title against 15 other teams.
However, many believe the CONMEBOL do not have the muscle power like the FIFA and the UEFA, when it comes to prize money and other resources. But with the CONCACAF coming into the picture, the prize money allocation has been modified a bit, and the teams look to get higher monetary incentive this time around.
How much is the Copa América 2024 prize money for the champions?
The Copa America 2024 will be hosted by the United States next year, as it will involve teams from all of America, and not just the nations bound by CONMEBOL. Ecuador was chosen as hosts initially, but after their refusal, Peru and USA put their bids to host the competition, which was later allotted to the US.
An estimate puts the overall prize money for the Copa America competition at $23 million. However, the prize money is split among the winners, runners-up, and participants in the competition. The money will be split among the top teams in the order of their performance, and it will be given in an appropriate ratio.
With respect to Copa America 2024, which is the 48th edition of the competition, the prize money is expected to be the most rewarding to date. According to a recent report regarding the breakdown, winning the Copa America could get the winning team a sum of $10 million, along with the Gold Cup as silverware.
