Borussia Dortmund managing director Carsten Cramer has planted a subtle dig on Portuguese sensation Cristiano Ronaldo following his failed move to the German club back in 2022 at the time of CR7’s departure from Manchester United.
Cristiano Ronaldo was unintended to represent Manchester United after his former club failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League as the Portuguese was exploring options across the Europe.

Borussia Dortmund was an option for the five time Ballon d’Or winner but the managing director of the football club said they were never interested in him and obligingly focused on buying footballers rather than pursuing social media influentials.
“Basically, the value of Borussia Dortmund does not depend on social media followers. We are a football club, that’s the key. We can have the best ideas in marketing, but if we lose 3-0 at home to Freiburg, it doesn’t work.”- Carsten said.

“Even with the best brand presentation, the be-all and end-all is the product. Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl denied claims last summer that the club would move for Ronaldo, but he did praise the ex-Juventus and Real Madrid star.”- he further added.
Carster Cramer has been in the managing director role since 2010 and is responsible for the strategic direction and management of the club, including its commercial, marketing, and international activities.
Under his leadership, Borussia Dortmund has undergone significant growth and transformation, both on and off the pitch as he played a key role in developing the club’s international profile, including its expansion into key markets.
Carsten has served as a member of the board of the German Football League (DFL), and is a regular speaker and panelist at football conferences and events around the world.

Cristiano Ronaldo is a predator himself with records speaking for itself but the Borussia Dortmund managing director never quite found him suited for the club.
“Cristiano Ronaldo will not move to Borussia Dortmund. This is so. The click figures were probably outstanding but we have done a few things over the past days to pin down this rumour.”- Carster told earlier to German newspaper Bild.
“[Ronaldo is] certainly a fantastic player, a world footballer. But if it is said that he is missing the Bundesliga, then that is not our issue.”- he concluded.
