Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the most beloved men on earth. His star power, along with his success and fame, has drawn the inevitable attention of fans, some of whom have taken their admiration to dangerous levels.
Portugal faced Luxembourg in a EURO qualifier match earlier today, where they had a thrashing victory, winning by 6-0. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brace in the first half of the game and was substituted in the second half.
During Portugal’s resounding victory over Luxembourg, a cheering fan of Al Nassr surprised Cristiano Ronaldo with an outpouring of affection. A pitch invader made his way onto the field and ran towards Ronaldo. Security quickly apprehended the pitch invader, who was sporting an Al Nassr shirt and led him off the field.
But before the security could do so, Ronaldo gave him a wink and a thumbs up. It seemed like the five times Ballon d’Or winner seemed unfazed and delighted at this sudden encounter.
This was not the first time for Cristiano Ronaldo
There have been many instances of “pitch invasions” throughout Ronaldo’s career, in which fans have run onto the field to get closer to their hero.
The 2016 UEFA Champions League final featured one of the most famous pitch invasions involving Ronaldo. After Ronaldo scored the penalty that won the Champions League for Real Madrid for the 11th time, a fan ran out onto the field to hug him.

While the Portuguese star may have enjoyed the attention at first, the situation quickly grew out of control as more fans joined in. The incident delayed the postgame celebrations and served as a sobering reminder of the risks associated with invading the playing field.
In March of 2018, during a match between Portugal and the Netherlands, Ronaldo was again the target of a pitch invasion. A fan tried to run onto the field and take a selfie with Ronaldo as he was about to take a penalty. The supporter was then promptly apprehended by the guards.
