After Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United this January, Marcus Rashford stepped up his game, and he is closing in on breaking the Portuguese superstar’s goal record from 2008 at Old Trafford.
The 5 times Ballon d’Or winner rose to fame during his first spell with Manchester United. Under the legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson, Ronaldo won three Premier League titles along with his first UEFA Champions League. He was also awarded his first Ballon d’Or in 2008, the year in which Manchester United won the Premier League, the Champions League, and the Club World Cup.
During this successful year, Ronaldo broke the record for goals scored in the most consecutive matches at Old Trafford in one season. He managed to score in 10 straight home matches between March 2008 and November 2008.
Will Rashford be able to break the record Cristiano Ronaldo has set?
As it stands, Marcus Rashford has a solid shot at breaking Ronaldo’s record. Rashford has been in sensational form recently, scoring 26 goals so far across all competitions. He managed to score in each of United’s last seven home matches.
Following United’s 7-0 thrashing against Liverpool, Erik Ten Hag’s side bounced back after beating Real Betis 4-1 in the Europa League Round of 16. Rashford opened the sheets after finding the back of the net six minutes into the match.

Rashford also scored in the 2023 EFL Cup final, where United emerged victorious over Newcastle. His 39-minute goal did not get responded to after Casemiro scored the opener in the 33rd minute.
Manchester United are currently third in the Premier League table. They have accumulated 50 points in 26 games. They are two points clear of 4th place Tottenham, but they have an additional game to play.
UPDATE: Marcus Rashford was unable to break Ronaldo’s record, as Manchester United finished their Premier League match against Southampton at 0-0.
