The Dallas Cowboys are gearing up for the 2023 NFL season, and wide receiver Michael Gallup is feeling optimistic about his role on the team.
After battling through an injury-ridden season in 2022, Gallup is determined to return to his former self and make a significant impact on the field. With his positive mindset and renewed confidence, Gallup aims to be the player the Cowboys can rely on.
What injury did Michael Gallup have?
Gallup’s journey to reclaim his form hasn’t been an easy one. Last season he had an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee. Because of this he couldn’t play for nine months.
Unfortunately, he struggled to find his rhythm and ended up with modest numbers, catching only 34 passes for 424 yards and four touchdowns throughout the season.
Gallup’s optimism for the new NFL season
However, Gallup expressed his belief that he is back to his old self. He believes he will regain his previous form. And expressed his determination to become the reliable playmaker the team needs. “I’m very confident I’ll be that guy, for sure,” he stated during an interview with Todd Archer of ESPN. The wide receiver has noticed a distinct change in the air and feels a renewed sense of excitement whenever he walks into the team’s facility.
During organized team activities, he has been showing signs of progress. He mentioned feeling “springy again,” a positive indication that he is recovering well from his injury. In retrospect, he admitted that he had been overthinking and struggling with his knee throughout the previous season.
“It was definitely frustrating, just on my part,” Gallup said of last season. “Nothing to do with the team or anything like that, but just me coming back. I mean that was tough. I never had a big injury like that. It was different. I had to work a little bit harder. I had to do some things that I’ve never had to do. I could normally just walk out on the field and play. Couldn’t do that.”
The injury was a very difficult time for him as he never had any such serious injury before. Gallup had to put in extra effort and go through unfamiliar challenges to return to the field. However, his determination and resilience are driving him forward.
