Dallas Cowboys Prepare for Shocking New Head Coach Appointment

The Dallas Cowboys are getting ready to announce a surprising new head coach after Mike McCarthy’s departure following a tough 2024 NFL season. The week started with talks about McCarthy’s future, but by Monday evening, he was out, and Deion Sanders quickly became the leading candidate.

However, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is an unpredictable character, as new reports state that he’s reportedly looking at Brian Schottenheimer to replace Mike McCarthy as his head coach.

Jerry Jones and Mike McCarthy did not reach an agreement on a contract extension after McCarthy’s five-year deal finished because the Dallas Cowboys have talked to several people about the offensive coordinator job, including Brian Schottenheimer, Robert Saleh, Leslie Frazier, Deion Sanders, and Kellen Moore.

It looks like Jones is considering making an unusual choice that would surprise everyone in the sports world. Jori Epstein of Yahoo Sports shared on 93.3 KJR Radio that there’s growing momentum for Brian Schottenheimer to be named the new head coach.

Schottenheimer took over as offensive coordinator in 2023 after Moore left. Although McCarthy took over play-calling duties, Dallas had the top-scoring offence that year. But in 2024, the offence dropped, especially with Dak Prescott sidelined for most of the season.

So the current big talk is when the new contract will be signed and who the most anticipated new head coach will be.

Dallas Cowboys’ owner on McCarthy’s exit

The Dallas Cowboys have decided to part ways with head coach Mike McCarthy after a tough 2024 season. The team missed the playoffs for the second year in a row, finishing with a 7-10 record.

In a statement on Monday, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones explained that the decision to part ways was mutual and in the best interest of both sides.

He praised McCarthy for his work with the team, saying, “Throughout Mike McCarthy’s tenure here, including the last several weeks, I have been very complimentary of the job he has done.”
