As the Dallas Cowboys aim to rebound from yet another premature playoff departure, they’ll face some challenging choices this offseason. Last season, the team was eliminated by the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card Round, and this season, they managed to defeat Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round but then suffered another defeat against the 49ers in the Divisional Round.
If the Dallas Cowboys hope to overcome the Super Bowl barrier in the upcoming season, owner Jerry Jones may have to maintain his reputation of fearlessly executing blockbuster trades to improve the team’s chances of winning.
While linebacker Micah Parsons is undoubtedly the Cowboys’ most indispensable player, there’s been speculation about what kind of trade could lure him away from the team. In fact, Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay has presented some “ridiculous” trade proposals for other “untouchable” stars.
One of the proposed trade scenarios involves Parsons being traded to the Chicago Bears in exchange for the first overall pick in this year’s draft, as well as second and third-round picks in 2023.
“Adding a talent like Parsons would instantly elevate Chicago’s defensive capabilities. The Penn State product helped transform Dallas’ defense from one that allowed 29.6 points per game in 2020 to one that gave up a much more respectable 21.1 points per game the following season.
Unfortunately for the Bears, it will likely take much more than the No. 1 overall pick to convince the Cowboys to move Parsons. He’s arguably the most cost-effective defender in the league and isn’t eligible for an extension until 2024, a contract that is allowing the Cowboys to splurge on other pieces before his inevitable payday.”
Despite Parsons’ impressive performance since his rookie year in 2021, there’s no indication that the Cowboys would consider trading him, given that he’s been instrumental in turning their defense into one of the NFL’s best. However, if the Bears were to present the exact package as proposed by Kay, Jerry would certainly need to contemplate the offer.
As the Dallas Cowboys look to move on from another season cut short in the playoffs, the pressure is on for the team to make some tough decisions this offseason. While it’s clear that the Cowboys have a wealth of talent, they’ll need to carefully consider their options to make the necessary improvements and overcome the challenges that stand in their way.
