Tony Ferguson was arrested just a week ago for damaging parked cars outside of a nightclub in Los Angeles. However, Dana White announced the next bout for the lightweight fighter Wednesday, amidst the DUI arrest scandal.
The UFC president not only announced Tony Ferguson’s bout versus UFC veteran Bobby Green, but also declared the return of the BMF championship. On a packed main event for UFC 291 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City on July 29, Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier will compete for the honorary BMF championship belt.

Update on Tony Ferguson’s DUI charge
Tony Ferguson’s truck collided with a number of other parked cars outside a club in Los Angeles about ten days ago at midnight, putting him in serious trouble. Tony was held at the station for a while before being let go.
Official reports indicate that drinking alcohol contributed to the 39-year-old fighter’s careless driving. Before security came, the California boxer had already damaged a few cars including a Mercedes.
El Cucuy was quite uncooperative during the police investigation. Additionally, the MMA veteran opted not to take a field sobriety test. At midnight, authorities detained the retired UFC fighter on suspicion of DUI and other offenses and discharged later.
UFC 291 : El Cucuy vs King
Considering everything Ferguson has been through over the past two weeks, Dana’s announcement of Tony’s next bout caught everyone completely off guard. Since his defeat to Nate Diaz in UFC 279, El Cucuy hasn’t engaged in a octagon combat.

Even though Tony hasn’t yet commented on the battle against King yet, it’s safe to presume that he’s just happy about getting a fight to prove himself once again given that he’s already lost five straight matches.
After suffering two consecutive losses, Bobby is also eager to get back on the winning track. Against Islam Makhachev and Drew Dober in 2022, the 36-year-old fighter suffered defeat. So it stands that two fighters will be competing for retribution in this battle.
