One of the most beloved UFC trash talkers is scheduled to come back for war at heavyweight as Derrick Lewis settles the score against Serghei Spivac. Derrick has not seen the success he was once going through in his fights as of late. But now he has another chance to prove himself and Daniel Cormier is all about it.
On a recent show, the former two-division champ said,
“I don’t know if Spivac is the guy. I’m trying not to insult Serghei Spivac, because I like the kid. I think he’s a nice guy. I think he’s a good fighter. … He’s still losing to the guys that are ranked very highly, and I just don’t know if Serghei is quite at that level.”
“So, I’m gonna tap in that Derrick Lewis wins the fight. I think he’s gonna knock him out, but I do believe that – I think Derrick’s done at the top. I think Derrick’s absolutely done at the top of the division. I just don’t know if he still can’t knock out No. 10, 11, 12, 13, because I just don’t think those guys are as good as they are,” he concluded.
Is Daniel Cormier right on Derrick Lewis vs Serghei Spivac?
Derrick Lewis was seen as a formidable fighter in the heavyweight division. The Black beast not only had tremendous knockout power but he also managed to put together an impressive win streak. Plus his slightly unorthodox way of fighting and banter during interviews turned him into a fan favorite.
Unfortunately, his losses against Sergei Pavlovich, Tai Tuivasa, and, Cyril Gane have seemingly taken a toll on him. Many knew where his weakness was after his loss to Daniel Cormier but now it has been revealed that he can be outclassed in the power and technique department.
With Francis Ngannou out of his UFC contract, the division is currently entering a new era. Let’s see where Lewis fits into all of this.
