This week, the Raiders have made very significant roster moves. The team has fired the head coach and general manager because of the team’s poor performance this season. Despite initially considering retaining them for the 2024 season, ongoing setbacks in the games ultimately forced the Raiders’ owner to make this difficult decision.
The team has also changed the quarterback for this season. Although some may view these decisions as sudden, there is one player within the Raiders who believes these were necessary and justified moves for the team’s successful future.
Davante Adams expresses support for Raiders’ sudden shakeup
Throughout the season, the wide receiver of the Raiders Davante Adams expressed frustration with the team, primarily due to the inconsistent quarterback performance of Jimmy Garoppolo.
However, the team has now made the official decision to have rookie Aidan O’Connell take over as the starting quarterback, a move that Adams supports. Adam also supports the team’s decision to fire the head coach McDaniels Josh. He believes that it was also a positive coaching move at the right time.
“It’s not a celebration that we have a new coach and that changes were made. One way or the other, it was time for some sort of change just to bring a little juice in and revitalize the team a little bit.”
If the coaching of a team isn’t good then the whole team’s performance gets affected. The WR himself has faced a decline in his performance this season. He caught just 47 passes for 539 yards and three scores. Therefore, Adam believes that these recent decisions of the team were necessary.
“I think it’s more of a mindset that we’re trying to — not force but just have moving forward to try to be as positive as possible,” Adams added.
The team decided to fire Josh McDaniels after their loss to the Detroit Lions. The team was already performing badly with a 3-5 record. Considering these factors, the team’s decision to fire the HC despite his 4 years remaining in the contract and bench Jimmy Garoppolo is quite justifiable.
Antonio Pierce takes charge of Raiders interim coach
After the Raiders fired the HC, it was reported that they had appointed Antonio Pierce as the interim coach of the team. Pierce brings a wealth of coaching experience. He spent 10 seasons as a player and became a high school coach in 2024.
After four years, he joined Herm Edwards’s staff at Arizona State. Later, he was promoted from linebacker coach to associate head coach. He then joined the Raiders as linebacker coach.
And now that the team has even given him a higher position, he will be the interim coach of the team for this season. If Pierce is able to prove his coaching skills and help the team improve their performance, the Raiders owner might give him a more permanent role.
For now, fans are looking forward to watching the upcoming games of the Raiders and are curious to observe how the team’s performance will be affected by the absence of Josh McDaniels.
