Days After Claiming “MMA Is the Easiest Sport to Become Champion,” Demetrious Johnson Proves His Point Emphatically

Demetrious Johnson is the former UFC Flyweight champion and the current ONE Flyweight Champion. The inaugural Flyweight champion of UFC left the promotion and joined ONE because he felt stuck in his career and was looking for a new beginning. Apart from being a fighter in the octagon, the MMA legend also has a YouTube channel with the name ‘Mighty Gaming’. 

In a recent video that he posted on his YouTube channel, Johnson drew a comparative analysis between Boxing and MMA. It was there, that he said, becoming a champion in a sport such as boxing or kickboxing is way tougher than being a champion in MMA. He explained that in a sport like boxing, every fighter needs to be good at that single martial art while in MMA, fighters can get pass even if they’re weak in something.

“Mighty Mouse” holds a Brown Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu but it’s an accepted fact among the fans that even though he does not have a Black Belt, he can surely grapple quite well if paired up with a BJJ Black Belt. Recently, it was made public that Demetrious entered his first ever Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition.

Johnson proved once again that he has not become the champion by fluke when he managed to achieve the gold medal in his first ever competitive BJJ tournament. He joined the World Master IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship. The reaction from fans were widely positive with many of them acknowledging the fact that the Flyweight champion is indeed a “GOAT”.

Demetrious Johnson’s victory in the IBJJF World Master Championship certainly added weight to the recent statement he made in his YouTube video: “Mixed Martial Arts is the easiest sport to become champion”. A lot of people agreed and many others were highly skeptical of what the Flyweight champion was stating.

However, with this achievement, it seems that he has quelled any lingering skepticism that the people might have had. “Mighty Mouse” has established himself as one of the greatest in the sport by having a record streak of 11 title defenses which was recently broken by Jon Jones. Being a legendary fighter of such stature, any comment he makes about the sport is received seriously by the fans.
