Regardless of that, injuries still persist on many players. Emma Raducanu has not been an exception but she is not willing to quit. Since February Raducanu has yet to feature in any tennis tournament.
Emma Raducanu, 20, one-time Grand Slam winner has experienced another slump this week, as she has stooped rankings in the world, the first in two years. Yet, Emma Raducanu is hoping to comeback great in 2024, as she eyes more Grand Slam titles.
Emma Raducanu’s ranking slump continues
Emma Raducanu made history at the 2021 US Open when she became the first unseeded qualifier to ever win a Grand Slam, defeating Leylah Fernandez in the final. However, she has faced a lot of difficulty since then. In July 2022, the British player reached a career-high of World No. 10, but has since dropped significantly.
Rducanu last walked off the court in tears after rolling her ankle against Victoria Kuzmova of Slovakia in Aukland at the Australian Open early this year. Since then, Emma Raducanu has continued her rankings slump this week as the 20-year-old British star is now ranked at No 277 in the world. Raducanu, who had three surgeries in May and hasn’t played since then, exited the top-200 for the first time in 27 months last week.
After falling to No 214 last week, Raducanu dropped further 63 spots on the updated WTA rankings list this Monday. Raducanu, who is targeting to return to tennis in 2024, is nearing exiting the top-300. The last time Emma Raducanu was ranked outside the top-300 was in 2021 July – just before she made the Wimbledon round-of-16 as an 18-year-old wildcard.
Emma Raducanu has suffered multiple injuries and setback in more than two years. the first came in July 2021, the year she turned pro, she withdraws from her fourth-round match against Ajla Tomljanovic at Wimbledon due to breathing difficulties.
Tennis sensation Emma Raducanu confirms 2024 return
Emma Raducanu recently revealed that she is planning to return in 2024 as she continues recuperating after having operations on both wrists and one ankle. Raducanu didn’t compete in the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open this year after undergoing surgery at the start of May.
She has yet to go beyond the second round of a Grand Slam since winning the 2021 US Open and has also struggled with various injuries.
“Next season I’ll be back. This season all the slams were finished so it was difficult to watch them go by but I was trying to stay in my lane as much as possible and keep focused on my recovery,” she said.
This year, Raducanu sustained a left ankle injury in January, before losing to Coco Gauff in the second round of the Australian Open. Tennis fans her hoping she returns in due time, as no tennis lover would be happy to see such an amazing talent quit too soon.
