On the recent edition of NXT, the company announced that the current NXT North American Champion, Dominik Mysterio, will defend his title at the upcoming event, The Great American Bash 2023. It was revealed that Dominik will defend against former Champion Wes Lee and Mustafa Ali, who is currently playing the role of a free agent in the Stamford-based Promotion.
This match was announced after the celebration segment on the developmental brand. Rhea Ripley, along with Dominik, marched towards the ring for the Dirty Dom Championship celebration. However, it ended up being first interrupted by Wes Lee and subsequently by Mustafa Ali. This confrontation ultimately led to the official announcement of their clash at The Great American Bash 2023.

For those unaware, the show will take place on July 30 in Cedar Park, TX. It will be interesting to see if Dominik Mysterio can retain his Championship in the triple-threat match

Talking about his current Championship reign as a single Champion, Dirty Dom has already successfully defended his Championship twice in less than a week. He first defended his title against Butch on the recent edition of WWE SmackDown. On Monday Night Raw, Dominik faced an unexpected challenge from one-half of the Undisputed Tag Team Champion, Sami Zayn, where, once again, with the help of Judgment Day, he secured another title defense.
However, it seems like the company is working towards making Dominik’s Championship reign even more interesting. Currently, Wes Lee holds the record for the most Championship defenses as NXT North American Champion, but this record was achieved during a title reign lasting more than 250 days. Surprisingly, Dominik has already defended his title twice in less than a week. It seems highly likely that he could be the one to break the former NXT Champion’s record.
