FC Barcelona has been under financial scrutiny for the last few years after the disastrous reign of Josep Maria Bartomeu ended in 2021. The club has found some stability under Joan Laporta and Xavi but it seems that the Spanish tactician is set to depart at the end of the current season.
Amid so much confusion regarding the future coach, recent reports have come out regarding Barcelona’s potential move for PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe, who is set to leave his current club as a free agent in the upcoming summer window.
Deco dismisses Kylian Mbappe rumours
Rumors have gone around the world linking the French superstar to the Spanish giants Barcelona, even though the latter have severe financial problems. Rumours are that a free transfer is what the club has been doing lately and a free move for Kylian Mbappe at the end of the player’s contract this season could be considered by the board. The French winger is currently linked to Real Madrid as well, and the deal is reportedly advanced in that case.
In a recent interview, Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, who is in charge of the signings and sales the club makes, clarified the rumors. On being asked whether the club would consider selling Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong, who both are on the market strategies for many other clubs, Deco insisted that both the captains would remain at the club even after the current season and that the club’s priority is currently to agree new contracts with both the players as they are important for the club’s future.
The Brazilian also stated that the club would never think about the sale of two stars, not even to get Kylian Mbappe, as they reportedly only want to improve the team and not make it worse. The club would be open to new world-class signings and generating money from sales of other players in the upcoming summer transfer window, as Raphinha is already being linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur to generate FFP space for the club.
Potential landing spots for Kylian Mbappe
The French striker has been in the news for the last few years for his never-ending transfer saga with Real Madrid. Reportedly, the Galacticos sent a massive offer of over 200 million euros for the player in the summer of last year but PSG refused to sell and Mbappe went on to renew his contract with the French side for one more year.
But this time, the feelings seem different around both the club and the player. Reportedly, Kylian Mbappe is not going to renew his contract, which is expiring at the end of the current season, and is going to join Real Madrid for free in the summer of 2024 after rejecting them so many times in the last few years.
PSG has reportedly already understood the player’s decision and is out in the market looking for a suitable replacement, with Rafael Leao coming out as a proper choice for it. Although the deal over the contract between Real Madrid and Kylian Mbappe is going over smoothly, it has yet to reach a conclusive point, with the Spanish club proposing to offer a lower salary to the French star than what they offered him last year.
Even though there are some stoppages in the contract details between the player and the club, this time it looks certain that the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner is set to join Real Madrid in a move that could destabilize the world’s competitiveness.
Do you think Kylian Mbappe is the right signing for Real Madrid considering they are still in need of an outright world-class striker? Is it right for Barcelona to not go after the Frenchmen when they desperately need a world-class left winger to sort out their attacking outputs? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
