Demetrious Johnson garners support of MMA fans following his “MMA is the easiest sport to become champion” assessment

Demetrious Johnson, better known as “Mighty Mouse” is a Flyweight Mixed Martial Artist who is one of the fighters to have the maximum number of title defenses in his career. His professional MMA debut was in 2007 where he won the fight with KO. He debuted in in UFC 126 in the Bantamweight division. He is said to fight Bradley Martyn in a bout which is to be held soon.

Johnson became the inaugural Flyweight champion in the UFC in 2012 and defended his title for a whopping 11 times. However, to everyone’s surprise, it was announced in 2018 by UFC that they are trading “Mighty Mouse” for welterweight Ben Askren with ONE Championship. Demetrious now holds the Flyweight title in ONE Championship as well.

Demetrious Johnson claims “MMA is the easiest sport to become champion”

The veteran MMA fighter from America has a YouTube channel named “Mighty Gaming”. In this channel, he recently reacted to a video of an MMA title fight between two fighters. While watching the video, Johnson pointed out the difference between MMA and any other combat sport such as boxing or muay thai.

What he said was as follows: “when you do mixed martial arts, you’re gonna have people who have significant big holes in them”. Therefore, he is trying to point out that MMA is a big umbrella under which multiple martial arts reside. As he added later on, a fighter does not need to be equally good in grappling and striking to become an MMA champion.

Fans fail to find flaw in the assessment from “Mighty mouse”

Coming from a veteran of MMA, it is a given that fans could not find any flaw in his assessment. A lot of fans wholeheartedly agreed with what “Mighty Mouse” said. People agreed with the logic that in a sport such as boxing, it is harder since everyone is a master in boxing only. However, it is also normal that people have varying opinions. 

Some fans were not completely agreeing with the Flyweight Champion’s opinion. A comment read: “For now, he may be right. I still think MMA takes a level of dedication and hard work that neither boxing or kickboxing offer. 5 years from now this statement will hold zero value imo”. Therefore, there have been varying opinions on what “Might Mouse” has said about MMA.
