Demsey McKean vs Anthony Joshua: Aussie heavyweight confirms talks over potential bout have taken place

Demsey McKean, an Australian heavyweight, believes that he is the ideal opponent for Anthony Joshua at this time and he is extremely confident in his ability to defeat AJ this year.

Joshua, who has suffered two consecutive losses at the hands of Oleksandr Usyk, the greatest Ukrainian boxer in the history of the sport, is optimistic that he will be able to make a comeback in the ring and regain his form. There has been no official announcement regarding AJ’s next opponent.

In a recent interview with Sky Sports, the Australian heavyweight stated that his team has made an approach to Anthony with a fight offer and that they are the frontrunners for a potential fight with Anthony Joshua. However, the 32-year-old does not truly think that AJ’s career will be in jeopardy if he loses to him since AJ is one of the best heavyweights of his generation and still has plenty of fights in him, in his opinion.

“I could be (the man to retire Joshua) and I am very confident I can do that. But don’t get me wrong, there are still more fights for AJ. If he loses to me, a top-10 heavyweight as well, that shouldn’t be the end. People probably don’t give him the credit he deserves, for what he has done for the heavyweight game. He has brought a lot of eyes and money into the heavyweight division.” said Demsey.

In 2014, McKean competed in his first fight on a professional boxing stage against Luke Barclay. Since then, the Australian fighter has competed in 22 bouts, and he has not suffered a single loss in any of them. At this point in his career, he believes it is time for a big fight and that Joshua is the ideal opponent. However, he is not confident that Anthony will agree wholeheartedly.

“He probably still has his doubts, he still doubts himself a lot, I know that. But who wouldn’t when they are at the top, in the limelight, and cop a lot with criticism? There are a lot of factors but I have the skills to do that (retire him) for sure. I feel confident if that fight goes through,” he said. “The only doubt I have is that he doesn’t want to fight a southpaw,” McKean added further.

The Tower came close to fighting some big names like Dillian Whyte and Tyson Fury in the past, but those bouts ultimately did not take place and it makes him sad that some of the elite boxers in the world pick and choose who they fight.

Despite Joshua’s possible refusal of the fight because of Demsey’s southpaw punching style, there is still some reason for Demsey to remain optimistic. He is optimistic that things will turn around this time, and that Joshua will rustle up the guts to accept the deal.

“The world has gone mad, and all these so-called champion boxers don’t want to fight a southpaw. Let’s hope he (Joshua mans up) and fights this time,” said Demsey.
