For the last few weeks, rumors of a tournament featuring top heavyweights Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk, Deontay Wilder, and Anthony Joshua have been floating around. Boxing promoters Eddie Hearn and Amer Abdallah have dropped hints that a major tournament could take place in December this year.
To intensify this speculation, former WBC heavyweight title challenger Derek Chisora has revealed the salaries of the fighters that will contest in the tournament. While having a conversation with IFL TV, Chisora said that December is ideal for the super fight between the heavyweight stalwarts.
“Yes, we need it in December. You don’t wanna go there now.” Derek also reckons that AJ should not compete until December. “So wait because the paycheck is bigger. I think each fighter will make about 150.” If what Derek Chisora is saying is true then this is a gigantic opportunity as all the heavyweights will make life-changing money.
Besides, fans have a thing to look forward to after an undisputed heavyweight title fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury did not materialize due to the disagreement between the two parties. Moreover, fight enthusiasts will finally be able to see Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder clash against each other after years of rivalry.
But one cannot get too excited as talks can break down very easily and a great example is the Fury vs Usyk fight itself which was almost scheduled to take place in April. Do let us know in the comments section below your thoughts about the heavyweight tournament.
Will Tyson Fury defend his WBC heavyweight title against Andy Ruiz next?
A couple of weeks back Tyson Fury posted a video on his social media pages where he confirmed that he will soon get back inside the ring and defend his title. Everyone was assuming that Andy Ruiz would be the challenger as the Mexican shared pictures with captions mentioning The Gypsy King.
We will have to wait for any news regarding the tournament because it sounds too good to be true. But it will be an historic event if everything goes according to the plans of the tournament organizers.
