Despite $100 million star failing to impact crucial games, Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag ‘confident’ to turn things around

Macnhester United have not had much to speak about this season, with poor performances in the Premier League as well as in the UCL. The club has lost most of its important matches, and club boss Erik Ten Hag has just provided an update regarding Manchester United and the players’ poor performances.

The Red Devils are often seen struggling not only with the big names but with some of the lower-level clubs as well. Their star player, Antony, has also had a bad stint. All of this has affected the club’s performance, but the Dutchman believes they can turn things around.

Erik Ten Hag on Antony’s recent performance

After being tangled up in several controversies regarding domestic violence and assault with three different women, Brazilian international Antony started receiving immense hate and criticism from the fans. As time went by, things got worse, resulting in Manchester United suspending their star player. Though the forward has now returned to the pitch, it is clear to see that this long break has surely taken a toll on his performance.

Club manager Erik Ten Hag has talked about Antony’s performance in recent games, and he believes that the Brazilian is the right player and he will bounce back. “That is also team first, and the team is not playing well when we don’t bring him the balls, and I am also responsible for that. But obviously, there was also a lot of noise, and that dropped his levels. He can do better, but all the players can do better. Antony is also a fighter; he has the confidence, he is brave, and I am confident he will bring the performance that he is the right player for us,” he said.

Antony unable to justify $100 million price tag

Antony was brought in from Ajax in the summer market of 2022 for a towering fee of $100 million. Both the club and fans had high expectations from him, but since his arrival at Old Trafford, the Brazilian has only made 54 appearances and made it to the scoresheet eight times. These statistics, though not bad, are definitely underwhelming considering the money Untied paid him.

After being suspended for a month, Antony made a return to Erik Ten Hag’s side on October 4 in a Champions League Group Stage match against Galatasaray. Unfortunately, the Brazilian was unable to work his magic, and the Red Devils ended up losing 3-2. Manchester United has also lost two of its last three games. They faced a 3-0 defeat against local rivals Manchester City on October 29 and were also unable to score against Newcastle United on November 2. Antony was present at both games, but the Brazilian failed to find the net.

Fans are clearly not happy with Manchester United, and Erik Ten Hag needs to pay more attention to his players and work harder if he wants to win any titles this season.
