The French champions Paris Saint-Germain are undergoing a rebuilding phase this season with changes in coaching management and squad revamp. They have bolstered their squad with new arrivals, despite the departure of some big stars.
The Parisians have dominated their domestic league but failed to make a significant impact on the continental stages so far. Meanwhile, PSG president and owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi has shown his faith in the ongoing club process, remaining optimistic irrespective of the recent results.
PSG owner speaks about the club’s progress
PSG is currently in 3rd place in the Ligue 1 domestic league table with only 4 wins in a total of 8 league matches, accumulating a total of 15 points this season. Meanwhile, in the UEFA Champions League, the Parisians occupy the second spot in Group F with three points from 2 matches.
Recently, they suffered an embarrassing 4-1 loss against Newcastle United in the Champions League, once again raising doubts about their ambition for European glory, which has been the club’s primary target for the past few seasons. The French giants have only once come close to lifting the trophy, losing to Bayern Munich in 2020.
Despite the recent results and ongoing form, PSG President Al-Khelaifi remains positive about the club’s progress. He believes they are on the right track, understanding that building a strong foundation takes time. He urges everyone to be patient and trust the rebuilding process.
Al Khelaifi said, “We have undergone seismic positive change at the club this summer, more than anyone imagined”.
“When you build new foundations, it takes time. You need patience and perseverance. Not to over-react” the PSG president added further
The newly appointed Spaniard boss Luis Enrique-led PSG had a shaky start to the season as the club is going through a full revamp, thus it will take some time for the team to showcase their best performance.
Major stars that departed PSG this summer
PSG witnessed a large exodus of superstars who departed from the French capital. The elite list includes Neymar Jr., contracted until 2023, who made a sensational move to the Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal this summer. Even World Cup winner Lionel Messi, who refused to sign an extension, joined MLS side Inter Miami after leaving the French giants.
In addition, Sergio Ramos, Mauro Icardi, Gerogino Wijnaldum, Marco Verratti, and Leandro Paredes are a few other huge names included in the list of outgoings.
