Having spent around 600 million euros in the transfer window last season, fans expected Chelsea to lay low and not be too involved in the summer transfer market. To everyone’s surprise, the opposite is happening, as Chelsea is again the highest spender in the summer transfer window of 2023. We can see many new signings and veteran players leaving. “The Blues” are on their way to forming a new roster of young talent.
One question that comes to mind is “How is Chelsea doing all this under Financial Fair Play Rules?” This is achieved by following amortization, a process where the player signed is offered a contract for a long period, thus reducing the annual cost of the player.
Chelsea reportedly to boost ammunition
After already spending 400 million euros this summer, Chelsea is still not ready to stop. It is expected that they will keep on going and sign more players. Since Romelu Lukaku is out of the books and Christopher Nkunku is suffering from an injury, Chelsea is looking for an offensive forward player to complete their squad. In a recent tweet, Fabrizio Romano reported Pochettino’s thoughts on signing more offensive players. “It is not easy at this moment to find the right profile. We are in the process, of working to see if we can add some players in this area,” said the Argentine.

The club recently made a British record deal of 115 million euros with defensive midfielder Moises Caicedo. Among all these new signings some veteran players of the club such as N’Golo Kante has left the club to join the Saudi Pro League. Other players like Kai Havertz and Mason Mount made a move to rival clubs Arsenal and Manchester United respectively.
Londoners left red-faced at the London Stadium
After spending so much to create an ultimate team Chelsea was supposed to win their recent match against West Ham United. Unfortunately, the team’s performance was disappointing. Even after enjoying ball possession of 76% they still lost 3-1. Enzo Fernandez missed a penalty in the 43rd minute. City had an upper hand in the game when rival player Nayef Aguerd was sent off but West Ham still managed to score a 3rd goal in the 95th minute.
Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to preserve players like Moises Caicedo did not turn out well. The 51-year-old still awaits his first victory as the head coach of the club. “That’s football. Teams like us, we need to get the right balance. I think today there were a few actions we didn’t manage well and we concede”, said Pochettino. “Disappointed but this is only the beginning. We need to believe in the process. I think we are going to be stronger and for sure be really competitive.” he added.
