When Roman Reigns returned to WWE in 2020, he immediately became the Undisputed Universal Champion and has been undefeated since. The Head of The Table doesn’t like CM Punk or anybody else in the pro wrestling industry. However, it seems that Punk is on his least favorite list.
After a fight broke out backstage at the Night of All Out PPV in September 2022, CM Punk became a household name. The public’s attention on his altercation with Jack Perry ultimately led to his dismissal from AEW. Reigns has said on a podcast that he dislikes CM Punk, even though they have worked together in the past.
Does Roman Reigns hate CM Punk?
There were other meetings between Reigns and Punk in 2013 and 2014, including a bout on Monday Night RAW in January 2014, which Reigns won. In the year 2021, Reigns made the statement that Punk had lost a stride, which caused fans to disagree.
Reigns became famous while working for Paul Heyman’s faction, The Shield, which had previously supported CM Punk. After the factions broke up, there was no longer a strong rivalry between Reigns and Punk.
On the Load Management podcast, Reigns discussed his feelings about Punk, noting that the latter made his work more challenging. If an opportunity occurred for Reigns and Punk to share the ring, Reigns would put aside any animosity between them for the sake of the industry. Besides he also added how much he dislikes Punk.
The Bloodline Head said, “I don’t like the guy. I mean, I don’t know many people who do, but I’m willing to put business first and make really good content if that’s the case. But yeah, he probably has to be slapped around a few times to get his mind right.”
CM Punk vs Roman Reigns now possible
CM Punk is no longer with AEW, having been released before WWE Payback 2023 on September 2. Punk departed AEW with the championship hanging over his shoulder and a move that resembled Roman Reigns’ signature finger raise.
Fans wondered whether Punk was setting up a fight with Reigns or just acknowledging The Tribal Chief with his allusion to him. Reigns and Punk hadn’t been in a feud before, although they had squared off several times in RAW singles fights.
Some wrestling fans may not like CM Punk, but he continues to draw a sizable audience. Now that he’s back in WWE, there’s a buzz about potential matchups between the two titans, maybe at the next Royal Rumble or WrestleMania.
Matches between Reigns and Cody Rhodes or The Rock for WM 40 have also been the subject of debate. There is still no telling what will happen in the future, but WWE might set up a title match involving Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, and CM Punk.
