When it comes to the world of sports, mentorship is extremely important and plays a crucial role in the development of the mentee. This relationship helps the young talents learn, hone their skills, and establish a bond with the mentor, which lasts forever.
The four-time NBA champion, Draymond Green, shares a similar kind of relationship with the young forward of the Golden State Warriors, Jonathan Kuminga. This helps Kuminga do better on the court every single game along with his mentor, Draymond Green.
Draymond Green makes consecutive connections with Jonathan Kuminga
Draymond Green was suspended from the NBA after he hit Jusuf Nurkic of the Phoenix Suns on the face during a matchup in December. Green was out for 16 games, but he stayed connected to his teammates and was constantly communicating with the young talent, Jonathan Kuminga.
Green used to observe the games, make handwritten notes and voice notes for the 21-year-old forward, and send him the recorded insights after the game as his performance analysis. In a talk show on ESPN, Kuminga mentioned that Green’s insights helped him improve as an individual as well as a player.
Kuminga also said, “I wanted to pick up everything he knows; with him, he won’t just give up if you don’t compete big-time.” Clearly, this mentor-mentee relationship will bring about some great rewards in terms of the players’ on-court chemistry.
Draymond Green promised to mentor Jonathan Kuminga prior to his signing
Jonathan Kuminga recently joined “Dubs Talk” hosted by Monte Poole and Kerith Burke, and discussed how Draymond helped and motivated him since before he was drafted into the NBA. Kuminga was asked by the hosts if he knew that Green was pushing the Warriors to draft him, to which Kuminga replied, “Yes.”
“Yeah, someone told me that before. I always tell people that Draymond just helping me, pushing me, every other day did not start today, Draymond wanted me to get drafted here, so I never want to make him look bad,” said Kuminga.
Since the start of his journey, Kuminga has made up his mind to never let Green down, and he’s come out to be a serious threat to the other teams, showing his offensive prowess time and time again. On Saturday, Kuminga contributed 23 points on the road to beat the Lakers in a thrilling matchup to go up to the 9th seed in the Western Conference.
