Dustin Poirier Accepts Covington’s Challenge for a Showdown on July 30th

“The Diamond” Dustin Poirier is so much desperate to get back in the Octagon and fight again that he is willing to fight Colby Covington at welterweight. The UFC lightweight Poirier’s last stepping into the cage has been been just over six months since suffering a decisive loss to UFC Lightweight champion Charles Oliveira.

The 33 year old Poirier had recently called off any kind of fight under the UFC banner with the MMA Masters trainee, Covington. “I’ll never fight Colby (Covington) in an Octagon where there’s finances on the line, If I fight Colby, we’re both going to jail – I’m going to jail. You will never see me fight Colby Covington in the UFC.” Recently Poirier addressed to the media.

However, former interim lightweight titleholder, Poirier seems changed his mind following the fielding of offers to fight at the pay-per-view event, former two welterweight title challenger, Stephen Thompson tweeted offering the Louisiana native Poirier to stand opposite saying “Hey @DustinPoirier, I’m down to scrap!”

Poirier briefly responded the tweet of the Simpsonville striking veteran, Poirier tweeted, “Respect”. Poirier then switching his attention to former American Top Team teammate Colby Covington, tweeted to accept a prior offer to fight him.

After posting a series of Tweets hyping his 170-pound debut, ‘The Diamond’ called for a welterweight showdown with Covington at the upcoming UFC 277 pay-per-view on July 30.

Colby Covington is yet to respond to Poirier’s callout. However, Covington and Poirier used to be training partners with at American Top Team (ATT) until 2020 before Covington left the gym after things turned sour between Colby and several members of the gym, including Poirier, the consequences of which are still being resolved.

Obviously thing have changed a lot since then and we expect to see an appropriate reply from Covington.
