In recent times, women’s football has seen a certain rise in popularity that has led to an increase in its fanbase from all over the world. A testament to this is the inclusion of women’s teams in recent FIFA games. This increase in fanbase has led to a gradual but big shift of women’s football to the mainstream. The inclusion of Women’s Team of the Year in EA FC 24 is a very impactful decision for the popularity of women’s football and fans of the game.
Team of the Year is the most anticipated event for EA FC fans, as it gives them the ability to form a team full of players who were in form throughout the season. Everyone looks forward to this event, as it includes specialized cards with the special effects of their favorite players of the season. And this year, there will be two different teams, featuring a separate women’s TOTY squad for the first time.
Who is nominated for Women’s Team of the Year?
Last season saw a huge increase in the prominence of women’s football. From Spain winning the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to FC Barcelona winning their second UCL trophy, fans witnessed a season for ages to remember. Whether it was Sam Kerr from Australia or Aitana Bonmati from Spain, this Team of the Year saw competition in every position across the globe.
While this year’s nominees consisted of big names who made their mark on the big stage, fans also missed some big names like Alex Morgan or Megan Rapinoe. But this doesn’t change the fact that the first ever Team of the Year has some big, new-generation names like former Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas and current Ballon d’Or winner Aitana Bonmatti. The list contains big names like World Cup Golden Glove winner English Goalkeeper Marry Earps, whilst on big names such as World Cup Golden Boot Winner Hinata Miyazawa and the Young Player of the Tournament Salma Paralluelo.
Nominations list for Men’s Team of the Year
The list of nominations for Men’s Team of the Year also struck up quite a conversation between the fans. With many accusing EA of missing out on big names like Antonio Rudiger and UCL winner Kyle Walker, many have also appreciated the inclusion of players from outside the top teams, like Take Kubo, Guirassy and Aleix Garcia. With no change in the voting procedure and the event, EA FC 24 has tried to change nothing in the most anticipated event of the year.
EA FC 24 has taken a big steps towards gender equality by including a Team of the Year Event for women’s football in their gameplay. This will make the game more interesting for women’s football fans, and would also increase its fanbase. A time where women’s football is equally mainstream doesn’t seem far now.
