Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman recently spoke highly of the former Georgia Bulldog star and the team’s new acquisition, running back D’Andre Swift.
The Eagles’ GM sent a fourth-round pick in 2025 and a swap of seventh-round picks in 2023 to the Detroit Lions to acquire Swift, letting him join the veteran running back room with Kenny Gainwell, power runner Rashaad Penny, Boston Scott, and Trey Sermon.
What did the Eagles’ GM say about their newly acquired star D’Andre Swift?
Moments after news of the Eagles dealing for RB D’Andre Swift broke out, GM Howie Roseman joined ESPN’s Draft coverage to explain how the trade came together and revealed they had been following the RB since high school, and in college as well as credited the Lions’ GM Brad for working to find a solution that worked for both teams while addressing Swift as a “Philly Kid”.
“A lot of credit to Brad Holmes, the Lions’ GM, for working through this with us and finding something that matched up. Philly kid, we knew him playing in high school at St. Joe’s Prep and followed him in college. Tremendous player and person, and we’re excited to get him to Philly”, he stated.
The Philly GM foresees the 24-year-old to accomplish incredible performance in his upcoming run with the reigning NFC champions.
“He’s got big play ability as a runner and a receiver — we saw first-hand when we were in Detroit for the first game of the [2022] season. He’s got vision, obviously tremendous character added to that”, he stated.
Howie said he didn’t enter the three-day, 2023 NFL Draft with running back on his mind, however, he couldn’t halt back when the opportunity came to pick up the former second-round pick in 2020.
“We liked our running backs. We didn’t go into the draft feeling like this was the position we had to have, but we felt like this player was somebody who could really add to our culture and add to our team”, the GM further added.
Despite battling with ankle and shoulder injuries, the young RB proved his worth on the field by rushing for 542 yards and five touchdowns on 99 carries during 14 games last season and adding 48 catches for 389 yards and three scores.
With his big play ability and versatility, Swift is expected to become a key contributor for the Eagles in the upcoming season. Fans can look forward to seeing the promising player take the field and hopefully make an impact in the upcoming season.
