Erin Blanchfield defeated Jéssica Andrade via submission in just the second round of their flyweight division bout at the UFC Fight Night event held on February 18th. Erin shared her excitement as well as her future fight aspirations in great detail during the press conference that followed the bout.
After winning a bonus of $50,000 for having the best performance of the night, ‘‘Cold Blooded’ is now looking forward to competing for a title bout in her weight class. The title fight’s in two weeks so Erin thinks she can line up perfect but only if UFC want her to fight again to gain more experience.
While describing the fight experience against the Brazilian fighter, Erin shared the challenges that she had to overcome. According to the American fighter, she had to strike and wait to find her takedowns and shoot one or two which didn’t work out so she had to stay standing comfortably. The 23-year-old fighter also appreciated her opponent saying she hit hard which is why she just had to work the game and wait for the perfect opportunity.
“She’s a former champ and No. 3 in the weight class so I knew I was going to have to work for those. The first one or two might not work but the third one does so I knew that going in.” Erin further added.

What does the future hold for the rising star at flyweight? Blanchfield believes that she should get a title fight very soon, but she is only interested in challenging for the title if it means she can defeat Valentina Shevchenko, who is the reigning flyweight champion.
“I always think of what I want to say after a win because it can be very emotional and it can be a little cloudy but I knew beating someone like her, especially if I finished her, that I could deserve that title next. I would definitely prefer Shevchenko. I think she beats Grasso. Grasso is a tough fighter but I want to be the one to take that title from [Shevchenko].” Erin further added.
