Paris Saint Germain has been rejected by former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann as the French club continues its search for a new manager.
The former Bayern Munich manager was in extensive talks to replace current coach Christopher Galtier, but talks have reportedly collapsed. He was so far the most favored candidate to take the job in Paris. The club will now look on to more prospects.
Paris Saint Germain wants to find a new manager this summer in order to move on from Christophe Galtier. The board and players were said to be unhappy with the manager’s performances and tactics at times. Even though he won Ligue 1, his failures in the Champions League led to many calling for his sacking.
Galtiter is said to have already been sacked, though the official announcement is yet to be made.
Why did Julian Nagelsmann and PSG deal collapse?
According to L’Equipe, Paris Saint Germain was locked in weeks-long negotiations with the German manager, but recently both of them decided to move on. They will not return to the discussion table and will look to other prospects.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the two parties disagreed on key details of the potential tenure of the German. While there is no indication of what those were, one of them could be the transfer strategy of the club. PSG is known for not relying on managers’ opinions before buying players. Meanwhile, Nagelsmann is known for wanting to be in full control of his teams. It was one of the reasons why he was fired from his previous job at Bayern.

Nagelsmann also failed to reach a deal with both Chelsea and Tottenham, who have since hired new managers. It is uncertain where he will go next.
PSG wanted to appoint Julian Nagelsmann, a top manager prospect in world football with a good experience in the UCL. They also wanted to appoint French legendary player Thierry Henry as his assistant manager in order to convince Kylian Mbappe of their new sporting project. Henry is also one of Mbappe’s idols and they thought Henry’s appointment could convince Mbappe to stay.
But Mbappe himself may leave this summer after deciding not to renew his contract.
Who would be the best manager for Paris Saint Germain?
Now that Nagelsmann is off the table, PSG needs to find a new manager capable of delivering success fast.
Zinedine Zidane has long been linked with the PSG job. The former Real Madrid manager has already established himself as a top manager, winning three UCLs in a row with Madrid.
His reputation as a French legend could also convince Mbappe to renew. Zidane is also an excellent man manager and can mold this PSG team full of egoistic stars into a united force.
Another option is Roma boss Jose Mourinho. The legendary manager may not be up to his old standards, having fallen from grace. And yet with a weak Roma team, he won the Europa Conference League and took them to the Europe League final this season. This shows, given the proper backing he can be successful.
Mourinho can also mold the team into a united force, but can also become unpopular in the dressing room, as previously seen. His tactics are also often called into question, even though they bring him success at times.
Antonio Conte is also an excellent option and is a serial trophy winner. But he also has the tendency to become negative in the dressing room and would try to command total control of the squad. Recently, he bashed the whole dressing room and board in his last job at Tottenham.
Luis Enrique is a good option, a good man manager with a good sense of tactics. A former treble winner with Barcelona, he knows what it’s like to win the UCL. Though even he is known to have problems with the board, as seen during his tenure with the Blaugranas.
Other managers such as Marcel Gallardo and Thiago Motta are also available.
There are so many options, but for Paris Saint Germain to find a perfect one for their system, they will have a hard time. And maybe the Les Parisiens finally realize that they need to sacrifice the control of the squad to the manager.
