Ex-Broncos star believes QB Russell Wilson shouldn’t be judged solely on one NFL season

The Denver Broncos traded three players and four draft picks across the 2022 and 2023 drafts as well as swapped a 2022 draft pick in March 2022 to acquire the Seattle Seahawks star quarterback Russell Wilson with an aim to improve their offensive fortunes.

The Broncos instead went through a poor season following their devastating performance that led almost everyone from the franchise to lose their job including head coach Nathaniel Hackett. Yet, Wilson had been able to keep himself on the roster. The football star generally had to face heavy criticism though one of his ex-teammate from Denver heaped praise on him for dealing bravely with the harsh words.

Bradley Chubb Shows Support for Russell Wilson

The former Seahawks outside linebacker Bradley Chubb had chances to play with Russell in that devastating season before being traded to the Miami Dolphins last November. During an appearance on Tyreek Hill’s ‘It Needed To Be Said’ podcast, the North Carolina State alum was asked about his take on the Seahawks’ second-year QB.

The Dolphins star said Russ had to undergo a lot despite putting his best effort on the field,

“He gets so much flak. It’s crazy, bro, because he do the absolute most that he can possibly do to make sure that he’s the best he possibly can be, you know what I mean? He doesn’t miss a step.”

Wilson maintained a career passer rating of over 100 at Seattle and he holds the record of having the most wins by a QB through nine seasons being a squad member of the Seahawks. Chubb, the first-round pick from the 2018 NFL Draft thinks the high expectations stemmed from his previous track record of performance,

“When he has a fluke year like this, bro, you just have to chalk it up. Bro, you had a bad year. But it gets so glorified because of who he is, who he’s been, what he’s done.”

The linebacker praised his ex-teammates unwavering effort to deal with all the criticism he faced following the last season,

“You have to look it as a nod to who you are as a person. ‘I’m on this pedestal, everybody wants to knock me down.’ That’s how it is with him. All the different allegations, he has to sit there and take it. It was dope to see how he just stayed the same person throughout it all. It was unfortunate that we just couldn’t reach the potential that we all thought we was going to be.”

When did Russell Wilson go to the NFL?

Russ headed to his NFL career after being drafted by the Seattle Seahawks as the 75th overall pick in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft, marking him the sixth quarterback pick of the year. He took over the spot of veteran quarterbacks like Matt Flynn and Tarvaris Jackson to establish himself as the QB1 for the team in his first season.

The football star moonlighted as a hero in the season by helping the franchise to finish his first season with a five-game winning streak, earning him the title of the Rookie of the Year in 2012. He continued the success mission by grabbing the Lombardi trophy in his second season and also helped the Seahawks to reach a consecutive Super Bowl in the 2014 season.

The nine-time Pro Bowler signed an $87.6 million contract with Seattle in 2015 and a $140 million contract extension in 2018 before signing a four-year contract with the Broncos as their starting QB from the 2022 season.

Wilson’s talent and impact on the Seahawks have been hard to deny throughout his career. As the new NFL season approaches, fans will eagerly expect the QB to regain his top form and lead the Broncos to new heights and claim his legacy as one of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks.
