Following the bombshell ‘dream switch’ announcement of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton moving to Ferrari in 2025, the Formula One community was hit with a shockwave of surprise. It was certainly sudden and positive news for the Italian team, which looks confident of clinching a World Championship with the Briton.
However, while everyone is taking it as a positive grab for Ferrari, one man has warned the Italian outfit about one ‘bad trait’ about Lewis Hamilton.
Flavio Briatore warns Ferrari on one bad Lewis Hamilton trait
In a recent interview with Tuttosport, Flavio Briatore, the ex-owner of F1 teams like Benetton and Renault, revealed a certain trait of the seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton that Scuderia Ferrari should be aware of ahead of their ‘dream union’ in 2025.
Speaking about Hamilton, who is clearly struggling in Mercedes since 2021, Briatore quoted, “Drivers like Hamilton take little effort if the car isn’t competitive.”
“If he sees the possibility of getting on the podium, however, he has an edge.”
Comparing Lewis Hamilton with the current Ferrari #1, Charles Leclerc, he added, “For me Leclerc is underrated. Hamilton will struggle to stay in front of him.”
During the interview, Briatore also advised Ferrari to provide a ‘good’ competitive F1 machine for Hamilton in 2025 to avoid the scenario where the ex-F1 champ ‘will not put much effort. He quoted, “Ferrari must be more competitive. It must improve the car by getting as close as possible to Red Bull.
“If this is the gap [the current large gap], there isn’t no driver that can make a difference. It is not the driver who solves all the problems of a team.”
Fans brutally roast Flavio Briatore
Despite his claims being unproven, Flavio Briatore’s remarks on Lewis Hamilton have certainly brought out explosive reactions from the F1 fans. After Briatore’s sly dig at Lewis Hamilton, the F1 community exploded in an uproar of disgust and anger at the ex-Renault (currently Alpine F1 team) boss. Formula 1 fans soon took to social media, particularly X (formerly Twitter), to express their emotions over his remarks on the 7x World Champ.
Pointing out Briatore’s illogical claim, one F1 fan—particularly Max Verstappen’s fan—commented with the caption, “Even as a Verstappen fan, I think this is nonsense.”
Many F1 fans also made ‘ouchy’ digs at the controversial Briatore by putting forth his past F1 memories, especially the gambling charges made against him and the ‘lifetime’ ban he received in F1.
Questioning Briatore’s image and position in F1, one X-user commented the following:
As for now, Lewis Hamilton will now travel to Melbourne with the Silver Arrows for the Australian GP on 24th March.
Is Briatore right about Hamilton not putting in much effort when the car isn’t good? Can Ferrari even give the Briton a ‘Red Bull challenging’ car in 2025? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
