Simon Mignolet, a former Liverpool star show stopper, has made history after his glorious display earned him the prestigious ‘Golden Shoe’ award in Belgian First Division A for Club Brugge.
Mignolet was brought on to Anfield back in 2013 from Sunderland and the Belgian goalkeeper represented 204 times for the All Reds before Alisson Becker took the responsibility from him in 2019.

The Belgian is in tremendous form this season after leading Club Brugge from the front row as the 34-year-old is the key to his side’s success after rescuing his team on so many occasions in this current campaign.
Mignolet’s great work didn’t go unnoticed as the Belgian clinched the Golden Shoe award in Belgium and becomes only the sixth goalkeeper to win it. The stopper said, “A dream can only become a plan through craftsmanship and hard work.

“It’s an honour to be awarded the Gouden Schoen 2022 and become only the sixth goalkeeper in the history of this prize to win it.”- Mignolet further added.
Club Brugge qualified to the round of 16 for the first time in the UEFA Champions League 2022/23 season after trailing Atletico behind them and Mignolet led the charge with back-to-back five clean sheets which is some achievement for a club of Brugge’s caliber.

Previous winner Jean-Marie Pfaff told Belgian news outlet Het Nieuwsblad: “Mignolet is head and shoulders above the rest. For me, he certainly deserves the Golden Shoe. Simon has contributed a lot to Club Brugge over the past year. He was a huge pillar of support with his experience and reliability.”
Michel Preud’homme previously won the award 36 years ago and after a long drought, Mignolet broke the deadlock while becoming the second keeper in 36 years and only the sixth goalie to do so.
Former Liverpool player, Simon Mignolet wins Golden Boot for 2022 – becoming the first goalkeeper since 1989 to win the award in Belgium.
