Ex-Manchester City ace envisions Lionel Messi and Pep Guardiola reunion in Argentina’s coaching team

We all know Pep Guardiola to be one of the best managers out there. The 52-year-old has worked with many famous players, such as Vincent Kompany, Sergio Aguero, and the G.O.A.T. Lionel Messi. He used to be a Barcelona player, and after playing for the club for 13 years, he came back to them as a manager in 2008.

Pep was very confident in his abilities, and he managed to convince President Joan Laporta to pick him over the likes of Johan Cruyff and the one and only Jose Mourinho. Laporta surely did not regret his decision, as Guardiola won back-to-back Champions League titles and also won the treble in the 2008–09 season. The former Manchester City and Barcelona striker has just told the press that he wants to see the two together once again in Argentina’s coaching team.

Aguero urges Pep Guardiola to reunite with Lionel Messi

Retired Argentinian striker Sergio Aguero has just told the press his thoughts about Pep Guardiola joining forces with Lionel Messi in Argentina’s coaching team. The former striker has been a crucial part of Guardiola’s squad during his time at Manchester City, and he believes his national team can reach new heights under the treble-winning manager.

“Obviously, as an Argentinian, yes, it would be really good if he could be the Argentina national coach but well, I don’t know. And obviously nowadays as I’m an ex-player and looking at it as a fan of the national team, I think that obviously everyone would be happy, right?” the former striker said.

How many games did Lionel Messi play under Pep?

There is no doubt that Pep Guardiola proved himself as a manager in Barcelona but Lionel Messi also had the best time under his guidance. Lionel Messi played 219 games over the span of four years under Pep. During that time, he scored 221 goals and got 91 assists to his name. The Argentine had a goal-assist ratio of 312 which is mindblowing.

Guardiola had a major role in shaping Lionel Messi into the player he is today. The 2022 World Cup winner was in peak form under his command. He won four consecutive Ballon d’Or under him and became the G.O.A.T. we all know.

It is still too early to say where will Pep Guardiola go after his contract with Manchester City ends. He still has 2 seasons left with the Citizens and will have options such as the English national team available to him.
