The former San Francisco 49ers star quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, signed with the Las Vegas Raiders on the opening day of NFL free agency. On Monday, he signed a three-year, $67.5 million contract deal with the Raiders.
After a shambolic performance against the Los Angeles Rams in the 2022 NFC Championship, the star lost his starting place to Trey Lance. However, he got the place back after Lance sustained a season-ending injury and eventually became injured in the later stages of the regular season.
‘Mr. Irrelevant,’ Brock Purdy shined on the first chance he got and even showed promising performance in the postseason, which pushed Jimmy G to be a free agent. Later, when the Raiders signed him, former NFL star LeSean McCoy took a shot at this decision.
What did LeSean McCoy say about Jimmy Garoppolo?
On last night’s edition of Fox Sports’ ‘Speak,’ McCoy criticized the Raiders’ decision to sign the 31-year-old as their starting quarterback. He thinks even the previous starter, Derek Carr, was a better option than the new recruit.
“He’s not an upgrade,” LeSean delivered his take plainly, as he mentioned Carr as a better player who “actually throws the ball.”

The 34-year-old former running back claimed Garoppolo became a star just because of the Niners’ good defense. He mocks the raiders for going from Carr to Garoppolo after such a drama.
Derek and the Raiders parted ways in a bitter way after the franchise benched him for demonstrating subpar performance despite his nine years of his service. However, he finally joined the New Orleans Saints and left the place for the two-time Super Bowl champion.
Jimmy became popular after winning the Walter Payton Award in 2013 while playing for the Eastern Illinois Panthers football team at the college level. Later, as the New England Patriots backup quarterback, he earned two Super Bowl rings.
As a first-choice quarterback, Jimmy G played six years for the 49ers and scored 82 touchdowns, and made 42 interceptions with 13599 yards passing in a 99.2 passer rating for 57 appearances.
