Ex-Titans WR Chris Conley joins 49ers to bolster Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle led explosive offense

The San Francisco 49ers signed former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Chris Conley to a non-guaranteed one-year deal on Sunday to strengthen the offense.

Chris started his professional career after the Chiefs picked him as the 76th overall pick in the 2015 draft and played there for two years. Later in 2019, he joined the Jacksonville Jaguars, and in 2021, he joined the Houston Texans. However, he couldn’t hack into the Texas team much and joined the Tennessee Titans in midseason.

Prior to the last season, he was a pretty decent receiver in the league, but a disastrous season marked him as questionable for the future. However, the 49ers might think the talent is still there and they can rekindle the lost connection with a more competitive roster.

How does the Niners’ roster look after Chris Conley’s signing?

The 30-year-old was in a pretty miserable place last season. Before joining the Titans, he went back to the Chiefs practice squad to find himself, but that didn’t help him much.

With him, the Niners have a wide range of receiver options, including Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuels, and Jauan Jennings. Samuel being the first choice, Conley might have to fight with Aiyuk for the chance to shine. But Brandon has fallen out with the 49ers recently.

In a Twitter post, he expressed his disgruntlement over not being chosen as the first option on a pass-first team.

Chris Conley has scored 15 touchdowns and accumulated 2853 yards of receiving with 217 receptions in his eight-year career. but last season it didn’t contribute anything to the stats.

With Brock Purdy being injured, it appears Christian McCaffrey will be the starting quarterback. The 49ers must maintain their offensive prowess, and this new addition of the WR will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the upcoming season.
